Research On Knowledge Transfer Mechanism In EPC Project

Under the background of B&R (The Belt and Road) national strategy, the government is striving to promote global industrial distribution of energy, traffic, telecommunication and etc. The concept of "big distribution" calls for the unprecedented strong demand of large construction project, which means EPC general contract model will be applied by more and more construction project due to its outstanding advantage. To support the development of EPC project, the paper clearly studies the knowledge transfer mechanism in EPC project, and logically answers the confused questions of knowledge transfer in EPC project. First, based on the system analysis of the knowledge transfer element in EPC project, the paper classifies the knowledge and knowledge transfer subject in EPC project, clearly defines the characters of the knowledge and subjects separately. Second, the paper carries out the system analysis of knowledge transfer process in EPC project and build a knowledge transfer process model to study the motivation factors, obstacle factors and knowledge transfer approaches that influence the knowledge transfer effect. Based on the theoretical analysis, the paper extracts 6 factors that influence the knowledge transfer behavior of the general contractor and sub-contractor, including individual knowledge stock, individual knowledge transfer capacity, individual knowledge absorptive capacity, knowledge transfer risk, project pressing and incentives. The paper verifies the result of theoretical analysis based on evolutionary game model and draws the final conclusion. The knowledge stock gap between the two parties should not be too large and too overlap. The comprehensive effect of individuals’ knowledge transfer capacity and absorptive capacity could influence the individuals’ knowledge transfer intentions. The balance of risk allocation and project urgency can also decrease the knowledge transfer intentions of general contractor and sub-contractor. Based on the knowledge transfer problems in EPC project and the research result of influence factors, the paper advises to promote knowledge transfer effect from three perspectives, improving the knowledge transfer capacity of the individuals, optimizing knowledge transfer mechanism, expanding knowledge transfer approaches.
