| The transportation industry is second largest energy consumption sector in China. Due to the difference in economic development in three regiogs, the transportation energy consumption has different characters in three regions. So the analysis of energy consumption and energy-saving potential of regional transportation China has important significance for saving energy and reducing consumption. This paper mainly analyzed the influence factors of traffic energy consumption and energy-saving potential in China’s eastern, central and western from 2000 to 2014. Through regional transportation energy consumption difference and convergence analysis, this paper found the necessity of transportation energy consumption from regional perspective. Based on the IP AT model, this paper respectively made urbanization rate, GDP, industrial structure, transportation structure and passenger and freight transport intensity as population, wealth and technology and introduced the five factors into the improved STIRPAT model to make influencing factors analysis. Meanwhile this paper selected urbanization rate and GDP to make an environment kuznets curve analysis based on the STIRPAT. Due to the influence factors of STIRPAT model of regression coefficient reflected the current relationship, and in order to capture the full complex dynamic relations, this paper established VAR model, using impulse response function and variance decomposition function to make a further analysis of various dynamic influence factors of transportation energy consumption. Accoding to the STIRPAT and VAR, the results of the influencing factors and energy-saving potential of various regions in China are as follows:(1) For the eastern region, the development of urbanization, economic development, and transport structure all have a significant impact on transportation energy consumption. Technological progress caused by the economic development and industrial structure optimization have the most significant impact on reducing transportation energy consumption.(2) For the central region, the development of urbanization, economic development, industrial structure development and transport structure all have a significant impact on transportation energy consumption. The technological progress of the economic development and the reduction of the demand for passenger transportation both have the most significant potential for energy-saving.(3) For the western region, the development of urbanization, economic development, industrial structure development and transport structure all have a significant impact on transportation energy consumption. To reduce the passenger demand and optimize the structure of transportation, as well as reduce the proportion of highway in passenger and freight transport have the the most significant potential. |
