For engine block used for R locomotive, this article adopts 6a management and tools comprehensively to study the improvement of quality control ways from casting process to final machining process. In the process of 6σ application and study, first, briefly introduces corporation situation, challenges and opportunities of corporation development, and current situation of production. Then, mainly introduces the engine block and its relevant technical requirements. Based on these, proposes product quality issues prior to be solved through the stability analysis of manufacture process and analysis of process ability. For the improvements of key quality feature which have been recognized, this article starts from the issue definition, applies 6σ system way, control chart and variance analysis to quantitatively describe and recognize quality issues so that finds the critical issues which ought to be solved. Make an analysis about product measurement system before implementing systemic improvement for engine block. For the manufacture process of engine block, uses the way of DOE to analyze and find out the major factors which influence the stability of machining process, especially for engine block’s coaxiality, which could get the improvement direction and the optimization helpful for manufacture site application.For engine block used in a large number for locomotive, this topic finds the improvement of process and raw material, and the way to decrease defects, offers the thought to raise the product coaxiality and accuracy by the improvement of process and raw material, which is innovative to actual application. Meanwhile, launches standard management actively and reduces machining time for the field management, which is meaningful to save quality cost, raise manufacture ability and pass rate of product. The application improvement of quality control way on engine block used for locomotive not only provides example and conference to the improvement of quality control, but also understands a set of thought about analyzing and improving product quality. As the continuous development of domestic and foreign railway market, the improvement scope of engine block will get larger and larger, so the study of this article is also significantly meaningful to process quality control and improvement of similar product.
