Fast hydraulic forging machine is one kind of heavy machinery in the mechanical field, and it plays an important role in national economic development. Quick progress of fast forging machine symbolizes technical advancement of mechanical industry. Since last century, enterprises have paid attention to product manufacture efficiency more and more, as well as quality requirement. Hereby research and development of various forging equipment control systems has made progress quickly in many countries, by which it significantly enhanced forging efficiency, met complicated forging process requirement, and accordingly reduced forging time greatly and saved raw materials and cost.Firstly, the research status of hydraulic forging unit in other countries is analyzed, and the control system is introduced in detail. Then, the basic components and working fundamental of 30 MN fast forging unit was stated based on the latest research results, and the mechanical structure and hydraulic control system were researched in more detail. Additionally, the infrastructure of the computer control system for the hydraulic forging machine was analyzed, and the control principle and working feature were presented briefly. Finally, the software design was carried out by taking example of 30 MN forging unit.This thesis focused on the software design of the fast hydraulic forging machine, and the control system adopted industrial control computer and Siemens S7-400 to form upper and lower computers. The software design scope mainly included three parts: 1) it applied STEP7 as the control software for PLC(Programmable Logic Controller) design. 2) Some industry request that visualization operational method shall be deployed to all task of 30 MN fast forging machine. 3) It adopted Siemens configuration software to develop upper computer HMI(human machine interface) for online monitoring system.The PLC control program for the fast forging machine gets hydraulic unit to achieve related action, meanwhile it controls hydraulic unit running status and kinds of forging process. The monitoring system shows machine running state and data relative to working status of hydraulic unit interior. Not only can it make operators aware of system running status and operation state quickly, but also it provides much more detailed running status of the asset interior to maintenance workers.
