| The research on the audio-visual interaction is becoming increasinglysignificant in the area of Architectural Acoustics. Varied types of sound and spaceleave a slightly different effect on our visual perception. Apart from that, thephysical environment in large railway station is so complicated that there is asignificant influence between multi-sensories. At the same time, the requirements ofthe space leading system is one of the important elements for passentgers whilingusing the waiting space of large railway stations. Therefore, this thesis aims toinvestigate the audio-visual interaction in the waiting areas of large railway stationsand then propose the possible suggestions on the design of the physical environmentin waiting areas of railway station to improve the space leading system. At first, thethesis investigates the travelling habbit, sound sources in railway station andcharacteristics of the soundscape in railway stations by questionnaires and in-situstudy.After that, the effect of the SPL, preference and context of sound on theleading effect of sound on visual attention is examined by laboratory experimentsand compared with the objective assessment by eye-tracking system. It is clear thatannouncement, café noise, music and train noise have a leading effect on visualattention and the larger the SPL, the significant is the leading effect. At last, theauthor proposed the design stratigies to improve the space leading system of thewaiting areas of large railway stations in terms of the management of SPL, type andcontext of sound. |
