The architecture information transferred in the form of 2D drawings is unusually prone to be fragmented and disordered, which can not meet the need of modern construstion. As the project becomes large and complex, the communication between different participants has become very difficult, which has lead to many problems such as the poor information exchange, low data repetition rate and so on. The application of BIM provides a solution for the life cycle cooperative management; however the BIM application is ineffectual due to the improper use of BIM tools. To solve the above problems, this paper studied on the problem of how to choose suitable BIM tools based on collaborative application.Firstly, the importance of BIM collaborative application and the significance of reasonable selection of BIM tools on BIM collaborative application have been analyzed in this thesis. Although foreign countries have realized the importance of BIM tools, the studies on the selection of BIM tools are seldom, and the domestic research has not begun yet. So the study of how to choose the BIM tools based on collaborative application is needed. Secondly, the concept of BIM tools and coordinative application has been difined, and the idea that selecting the BIM tools should based on cooperative application has been pointed out. Thirdly, the functions and features of the mainstream BIM software platform has been analyzed in this thesis, and summarized that the foreign BIM software platform are mostly used in modeling or managing construction, they improve their platform through acquiring other professional software companies. While the main BIM tools in domestic are used for structure design and project cost, they develop BIM application through developing BIM tools based on foreign platform such as Revit. Even though there are lots of BIM tools at home and abroad, no platform can meet the requirements of the whole process of BIM application individually. Then, the evaluation method of software cooperativity has been analyzed in this thesis, and the evaluation index of software cooperativity has been summarized. On this basis, we eventually establish the BIM tools selection system based on cooperative application. This system can help users to choose suitable BIM tools by matching the user's need and the softwares' characteristics.Reasonable selection of BIM tools is important to BIM cooperative application and improvement of productivity in construction industry. The framework of the selection system of BIM tools based on cooperative application has been built in this paper, which provides a solution for choosing the BIM tools reasonably, and lays a foundation for the further research on BIM tools.
