Distribution lines are important parts of electric power system.They have some features such as complicate construction, wide distribution, low insulation level,imperfection in technology management,operation and maintenance, so faults often happen to distribution lines.In response to this phenomenon, experts and scholars made proposed many methods of fault diagnosis and fault location on the distribution line,and achieved good results.However,these methods are all about the fault signal analysis and processing,which are lack of accuracy and unhelpful for field staff to locate the fault location.This paper proposes a monitoring and management system of overhead distribution network based on intelligent fault indicator.The system built a network of intelligent fault indicator,to monitor and manage the 10 kV overhead distribution network.Unlike traditional fault diagnosis and localization,the system proposed in this paper collected the real-time running information of line by the indicators which plugged on the line,then sent them to the main central station through the wireless communication terminals.When any line failures,the intelligent fault indicator would help the field staff to locate the fault location by LED lights.The system proposed in this paper has two main features:The first point is the timeliness and accuracy of line running informations.Because it acquired the informations directly by indicator instead of processing the running signal,the timeliness and accuracy of informations could be ensured in the case of communication worked.The second point is that the system could help the field staff reduced scope of inspections and indicates the type of fault.The LED indicator could flash in different way according to different type of failure,so the field staff's inspections and diagnostic work would decrease though view the LED blink or not and the flashing type.In order to verify the effectiveness,the monitoring and management system proposed in this paper were tested by an actual application case and a simulation case.The test results shown that the system had a very big help to enhance the power distribution reliability of overhead distribution network,meanwhile effectively enhance economic efficiency with a good ROI.
