Today, the bad effect of using traditional-energy has become much more serious for the environment, such as smog and acid-rain. Besides that, the situation of non-renewable-energy has become much further deterioration too. All these situation warning using new-renewable-energy research is important for human. And at the same time with the development of urbanization in our country, existing-building as the largest part of energy consumption, the number of existing-building was improve higher and higher for several years. How to reduce the energy consumption of existing buildings has become a major issue in China.Doing the existing-buildings-integrated-photovoltaic technology and potential research has become more important. But now the research on the way of collection building information of existing-building-integrated-photovoltaic potential is often through the drawing and manual measurement. All the speed of these two ways collection building geometric date is slow, cannot meet the demand of “fast existing-building-integrated-photovoltaic potential research”. So, we need to study the rapid method on existing building integrated photovoltaic potential evaluation and the way of collection building geometric date, helping to rapid estimation the existing buildings integrated photovoltaic application level of actual production capacity.In this paper, aiming at potential research of BIPV.At first, summarize and analyze several methods of collection building date on the study of BIPV potential, and summarize each methods' operation steps, scope of application and attention things. Secondly, summarize the way of using BIPV from design and construction. Thirdly, this paper using imagemodeler to collect building date on the different architectural form with IBM to analysis the accuracy, and summarize different building suit the way of applicable building-images. And at last, taking Tianjin University's experiment room for example, using imagemodeler to collect building geometry date, measure PV utilization area, use PVSIST software do system annual power generation simulation, obtain the PV maximum potential, and calculate energy payback with previous studies, quantitative study environmental benefits.
