The layout of substation location directly affects the quality of the grid structure, which has a direct impact on reliability, economy and power quality of the distribution network. On the basis of analyzing the factors affecting the substation location, this paper makes a research on evaluation of substation site selection. It can provide a reference for the evaluation of other substation location.Firstly, the paper introduces the background and significance of the substation site selection, research status at home and abroad, and the main research method. Secondly, the article introduces some theories of the substation site selection, including substation site selection theory and comprehensive evaluation methods of substation site selection. Substation site selection theory includes a brief introduction of the location of substation, the basic principles and the matters needing attention. Comprehensive evaluation methods of the substation site selection include the expert evaluation method, comparative method, comprehensive evaluation method, principal component analysis and so on. Then, this paper establishes evaluation index of the substation site selection from the perspective of basic condition, traffic condition, hydrological condition, engineering geological condition, construction conditions, economic cost condition and social environment condition based on analyzing principles of evaluation index. Next, the paper constructs the evaluating pattern based on element extension model. Finally, this paper makes the evaluation on the substation site selection.
