With the development of distributed networking technology, the research on the mobile terminal has become the focus point of respective institutes and software companies. Currently, the online monitoring data of distribution network equipment can only been displayed on the computer and can not get effectively access to mobile terminal. In order to solve the problem, development status of 3G / 4G technology and pecific applications on distribution grid communications have been investigated deeply.Combined with the open nature of Android smartphone,a monitoring platform for distribution network equipment based on 3G/4G has been developed.Monitoring platform is designed by using C/S structure of "platform database & application server & mobile client".The monitoring data of distribution network has been introduced into platform database. On the basis of design principles, the database tables have been designed specifically. WampServer is used by application server. Functional interface programs have been developed by php language in EclipsePHP Studio 3( EPP 3) development environment. JSON format is used as the way of data communication between server and client.The lack of public IP addresses has been resolved by NAT123 port mapping software. Eclipse and MVC framework have been utilized in the process of client flow design.The key problems in development project, such as network access,data transmission and data visualization, have been solved by multithreaded access, intent mechanism and AChartEngine, respectively.According to the logic flow diagram of the login function, warning function, real-time data function, historical data query capabilities, the corresponding JAVA code is compiled to complete the development of the client.Finally, the data of transformer winding deformation based on frequency response analysis(FRA) is taken as an example and functional testing is carried out on the real machine. The test results show that the clienft of monitoring platform developed in this paper can run on the Android smart phone stably and prove that the design scheme is feasible.
