Nowadays, the study of bridge deck pavement of long-span bridges has generally obtained certain achievements in our country. However, the deck pavement problem of small and medium-span bridges has not been taken into account. Statistics shows the ratio of the medium and small-span bridges has exceeded half of the total number of the Bridges in China's highway construction.The construction project discussed in this paper, is located along the south bank of LM-02, which is connected to the tongling Yangtze Bridge. The standards of highway construction are applied for the entire section. Due to the heavy traffic volume and severe weather, the requirements for the performance of the surfacing layer will be much higher. The quality of the bridge deck pavement directly affects the driving safety, comfort and the durability of the bridge. Theoretical analysis, experimental study, investigation on the field, and construction technology research would be used to research on the bridge deck pavement of the construction example in this paper.First of all, based on the substantial project, which connected to the HeFu-Tongling Yangtze River Bridge, this paper maintains the research on the medium and small-span bridges deck pavement and analyzes the early diseases of deck pavement in Anhui Province. In terms of mechanics analysis, the FEM software ANSYS will be used to establish a three-dimensional entity model according to the substantial project. The factors, which contain loading location, modulus, and thickness, will be taken into consideration to obtain the variation rules of the stress.Secondly, in terms of material performance, the asphalt modifiers AP-8 and MA 103 will be added to optimize design of pavement material. Meanwhile, three kinds of materials will be tested to demonstrate the most optimal waterproof adhesive layer material for the substantial project.Thirdly, the construction technology and quality detection method of acceptance will be put forward according to the practical construction.The study showes that, with the waterborne epoxy asphalt WEA as waterproof adhesive layer, the 0.3% AP-8 AC-13 (4 cm) as the upper layer, and 0.3% MA103 AC-20 grading (6 cm) as the lower layer, high temperature stability, low temperature crack resistance, water stability and fatigue durability can be well-guranteed. The construction example in this paper can provide a theoretical reference and practical support for the future research of medium and small-span bridge asphalt pavement.
