Since the open door policy, the rapid growth of Chinese economy promotes the vigorous development of the construction industry. Architects graduated in 1980 s have become the major force in the industry, which take up the most domestic urban construction. The growth and development of this huge group of architects is closely linked with the background of China. However, it has less attention by the public and media. In this paper, Yang Ying, the chief architect of Hunan Provincial Architectural Design Institute, is focused to analysis his creative process, his works and creative thoughts to understand the growth trajectory of local architects in the near thirty years. As he is the epitome of the development of the Chinese generation of architects, this study also calls for the public attention and awareness for architects.Yang Ying,the chairman of Hunan Architects Institute,is a leader of architectural design industry in Hunan. As a 1960's born architect,Yang Ying has participated or completed nearly 400 design works and has obtained more than thirty exploration and design awards along the past 30 years since 1987. He has been granted the Young Architects Award from CHINAASC twice, Outstanding Contribution Award of CHINAASC several times. As coming into the creative stage gradually,he shows the amazing creative enthusiasm and has more and more new architecture works. Like most mainstream professional architects in China,Yang Ying bears the most widely design works in the urban and rural districts. His development is closely linked with the background of development of China and the urban construction of Hunan.In this paper,the study conducts Yang Ying as the research object, by analyzing the learning and working experience of Yang Ying to find out the formation of the main theory. Though analyzing the design works, the paper carding the architect design concept and strategies, and find out the specific thinking combination with practical cases in different situations. Yang Ying also sticks into academic theory. On one hand, he starts the design from the field and keeps on highly- finished building design. On the other hand, he puts forward the theory of Rethinking on Architecture Design as well as Situational Architecture Design, which have been widely used in the practicing projects. "Enter into the field situation, Create with the free imagination " is the best summary of the methods and ideas of its creation.
