With the rapid development of traffic construction and the increasing of highway tunnels in China, the huge energy consumption has been discussed. The phenomenons of energy consumption and waste in the domestic tunnels are universal exist, the control methods of the power source in many highway tunnels are relatively simple,and it can not be adjusted according to the environmental conditions in real time,the energy saving effect is not obvious. The research on the highway tunnel’s optimization lighting technology not only can ensure the safety of the driver when driving in the tunnel, but also can avoid unnecessary energy consumption.This paper presents a real-time optimization tunnel lighting design method adjusting the illumination and actual conditions of the tunnel based on PLC.According to the latest issue "Highway Tunnel Lighting Design Rules" D70/2-01-2014JTG/T, design the hardware framework, set the PLC as the processing core, composed the hardware framework with the video vehicle detector, the outside brightness detector, PLC data receiving module. Introduces the main features and functions of the hardware,at the same time, the related hardware address allocation and interface connection are introduced. According to requirements and hardware frame design,design the software program of the communication and data processing part of the PLC, the detector, the field bus. An optimization model for the optimal illumination and energy saving in tunnel based on the actual situation is presented, an optimal energy saving control algorithm is designed. It takes the minimum total power of the actual lighting in the tunnel as the target, achieve lighting optimization control according to the actual outside tunnel brightness and inside vehicle operation situation to meet the most energy-efficient dimming duty cycle of real-time needs. At last, the communication and data detection of each detector is verified by the experimental conditions, and combines the case of Wenzhou’s North River Ridge tunnel to simulate the dimming process of the whole system and the optimization degree of the corresponding dimming duty cycle, estimate the energy efficiency of the system.
