Energy conservation and emissions reduction is the mainstream of the world today.Hydroviscous variable speed clutch as a new kind of transmission device attracts more and more attention because of its efficient energy saving effect. When the hydroviscous variable speed clutch is used in ship power system, it can help improve the working performance of drive system. However, whether the hydroviscous variable speed clutch can work well or not depends on its machine construction, hydraulic system and electronic control system. So it is necessary for us to model and simulate them so that we can make the hydroviscous variable speed clutch work better. It can provide a reference for improving the design proposal to promote the quality and performance of the products.At present most of the simulation about the hydroviscous variable speed clutch concentrate on the hydraulic system only and they usually use simple valve blocks which have been existed. It has a little gap compared with the real situation. In view of the situation, this paper in accordance with the principle of valve in the hydroviscous variable speed clutch models and simulates for the nonstandard valves with the simulation software AMESim. And it researches some parameters' impact on the working performance. This paper also build electronic control system with Matlab/Simulink and use PID algorithm to control the speed. At last it finishes the whole simulation of hydroviscous variable speed clutch through the co-simulation between AMESim and Matlab/Simulink.In consideration of the specialty of software using and the difficulty of co-simulation, this paper do some software reengineering based on Matlab language after finishing the simulation. This makes the process of the whole simulation clearer and the operation more convenient, which can get engineers who never refer to such software up and running quickly. The newly developed software can also help the engineers understand the theory of hydroviscous variable speed clutch and popularize the technology of the whole simulation.In order to verify the correctness of the simulation results, this paper experiments on the hydraulic system, governing performance and response speed for YT190 hydroviscous variable speed clutch with the test bench in laboratory 505 of Xinzhuang. Then through comparing the test data and simulation results we can find the error is less than 15%, which indicates the simulation has obtained good results. But the simulation curve is not very perfect, we can optimize the model and improve the PID parameters based on this paper in the future work.
