Before the phased-array Doppler Velocity Log (PADVL) is put into use, a series of function tests and performance tests is needed to ensure that it can work properly. After the PADVL is used, due to the impact of poor working conditions, sometimes it will break down.Fault diagnosis without disassembling the PADVL is often needed in engineering.The function tests to the PADVL mainly include: speed solved and depth measured;performance tests mainly include: inhibiting ability between the beam to be received and the others, and device natural frequency measured deviation, etc. This paper is based on the requirements above, takes DSP as the main control chip,touch screen as the host computer,and designs a simple to operate,easy to carry,on-land test system of the PADVL. The system can test the PADVL under laboratory conditions. Even the PADVL has been installed on a ship or under-water vehicle, and has been completed the tightness check, the system can also do the test in the premise of not destroying its integrity.The main contents of this paper include: analyzed the form of echo signal of the PADVL,carried out the hardware platform and software design of the test system according to the actual needs of the work, and applied this system to complete a series of function tests and performance tests. The function of the test platform mainly includes: self-test function,collecting and solving the PADVL's transmitter signal, data communication with the control platform (touch screen), analoging acoustic echo signal in use of the direct digital frequency synthesis (DDS) technique, data communication with the PADVL, etc. Finally, designed appropriate software solutions, depending on the test requirements.The results of the experiment proved that the system designed in this paper can complete the function tests and performance tests, and can diagnose the fault of the PADVL. The test system meets the requirements, works steadily and achieves the expected goal.
