With the rapid development of the industry and the improvement of the advanced technology, the working environment of the mechanical equipment is becoming various and stricter, such as high temperature, low temperature,high pressure, strong corrosion and so on. As one of the key parts of the whole equipment, the sealing performance of the sealing device determines the safety,reliability and long-term use of industrial equipment. At present, in the domestic industry, the metal seal rings are mostly used in special extreme working environment. The spring metal C sealing ring has been applied in some industrial fields, such as nuclear power, because of the good sealing effect, good elasticity and the ability to adapt to the pressure fluctuation of temperature and pressure. However, in the domestic this kind of seal ring development time is short, and there is little related research about it.Therefore, it is necessary to do a deep research on the sealing performance and the development of more application fields of the sealing ring which has great application prospect. In this paper, the simulation and experimental research of the seal ring are carried out based on the application and development of it in the aerospace field. The details of the study are as follows:First, with consulting a large number of literatures, the basic structure,sealing principle, research status and progress of the new type of built-in spring metal C -ring were studied. The structure is mainly composed of three parts, such as an inner cylindrical spiral spring base, hard metal alloy cladding layer and soft metal layer. Sealing mechanism of it is similar to the general metal C shaped ring and metal O shaped ring, mainly relying on line contact seal, and the strengthening spring plays an important role in increasing the resilience of sealing ring.At the same time, the performance of this kind of seal ring is studied.According to the specific application conditions and the existing research methods, the three-dimensional simulation model of the metal spring C ring with small diameter is established by using ANSYS finite element analysis software. On the basis of the analysis and calculation of the sealing ring, the performance comparison of the metal O sealing ring is completed under the same conditions.Secondly, the main factors that affect the sealing performance and mechanical properties of the metal spring C sealing ring are further analyzed and studied by using the finite element analysis software ANSYS. Key parameters for affecting the sealing performance of the sealing ring, such as the sealing ring compression rate, alloy coating thickness, soft metal coating thickness, ring opening width, the diameter of spring wire, spring diameter,working pressure and sealing groove gap are analyzed specifically. And the reasonable range of parameters is obtained under certain conditions.In addition, the structural optimization design of the metal C sealing ring is completed, and the optimization results are obtained under certain conditions. In order to improve the serial analysis efficiency and reduce the workload of the design of the metal C sealing ring, the development of the design software of the spring metal C shaped sealing ring is finished. This software is mainly composed of three parts: the input of the model parameters,the invoking calculation of the ANSYS and the formation of the calculation specification.Finally, the compression resilience test and the leakage experiment of the spring metal C -ring were carried out. The experimental results and finite element simulation results, the results are in good agreement, which verify the simulation model reasonable and reliable. And the results show that the metal C-ring has excellent resilience performance and sealing performance.
