Research Of The Yuelu Academy Layout Evolution In Historical Documents

Since ancient times,Yuelu Mountain has enjoyed the good reputation of“being encircled by rivulets with verdant hills”.And what is more praised by later ages is Yuelu Academy in this mountain."Although the soul of the mountain is peculiar,it can only be showed with humanity." With the elaboration of dozens of generations,Yuelu Academy has gradually created unique architectural layout and landscape.Therefore,the layout evolution process of Yuelu Academy is worth studying.The research of the space of Yuelu Academy,in the past,was discussed based on the existing academy entities.However,the necessary existing evolution process of its form was rare in the research.Moreover,the historical research laid stress on the change of education systems and ignored the evolution of spatial patterns.I think,by restoring the plan of Yuelu Academy in different dynasties,analyzing its spatial structures and discussing the corresponding relationships between the spatial patterns and the education systems,we can know the relationship between the changes of the spatial forms of the academy and the social ideology so as to get a deeper understanding about the space system of the academy.These analysis will help to study the factors that promote the pattern evolution of Yuelu Academy.Taking the historical documents of Yuelu Academy as research materials,this paper attempts to dissociate and reconstruct the information of spatial descriptions from them,and to establish the basic relation diagrams of spatial composition of Yuelu Academy.And based on these information,this paper tries to "restore" the spatial images of Yuelu Academy in the past dynasties.It analyzes the architectural characteristics of Yuelu Academy so as to deduces the characteristics and causes of the layout evolution.This paper is divided into five steps to study the layout evolution of Yuelu Academy.1.Researching Background:Through reorganizing the historical development process of Yuelu Academy,doing a field surveying and mapping about its current situation,I can understand its spatial structures and analyze its cultural core,which can be seemed as the basis of this study.2.Collecting Literature:From nearly a thousand of the collections of historical documents of Yuelu Academy,taking the accuracy of spatial orientation and the richness of morphological description as the standard,I carefully selected 33 documents and utilized them as the main source of drawing restored images.3.Drawing The Plan:First,through the textual criticism and reference of various literature and picture scrolls,the effective spatial information is extracted from them.Second,the information is classified according to the age,and then the effective spatial elements are extracted according to the space partition.Finally,the special position is fixed.I assemble and combine the elements so as to infer and supplement the space of the missing part of literature.4.Analyzing Spatial Structure:On the basis of restoring planes,combining with historical development background of the academy,I analyze the spatial structure characteristics of Yuelu Academy in different periods and different partitions and study the implied spatial prototype behind it.5.Speculating on the Causes of Evolution:In this paper,the architectural characteristics of the academy is associated with the evolution of educational systems and other historical development backgrounds.It explores the evolution characteristics of the spatial structure and the implied cultural connotation as well as the social consciousness.The study of the restoration of space and the evolution of spatial structures constitutes the two main bodies of this paper.One is to study the spatial information of Yuelu Academy in the historical literature in order to infer and restore the spatial planes.The other is to analyze its spatial structure characteristics according to the restored planes and the spatial structures and to summarize the characteristics and the reasons of spatial evolution.Utilizing the restored historical plans to analyze the evolution of the layout and studying the ancient historical documents from the perspective of spatial structure evolution are the innovation of this paper.With the special perspectives and unique research materials,this paper puts forward the prototype of space of Yuelu Academy in the past dynasties,the architectural characteristics and the features of building environment.Thus,it deduces the characteristics and causes of the spatial evolution of the academy and explores the new research methods for the later study of ancient academies which have experienced the historical changes.
