Comparative Research On Content And Methods Of Urban Renewal In Protected Historical Area Between Germany And China

Historic urban area is part of human living environment of various regions,which provides the most tangible testimony to the diversity and wealth of cultural,religious and social activities.A lot of Chinses cities have realized the value and significance of the historic urban areas.Meanwhile urban renewal will be a main topic during the next "reduction planning" period.Urban renewal in historic urban areai will be an unavoidable subject in China.This paper compares urban renewal design and practice in Germany and China.On the one hand,the author hopes to strengthen the academic exchanges between China and Germany in the field of"urban renewal in historic urban areas".On the other hand,architects/urban designers in China can learn the experience from Germany,and get a useful inspiration.This paper first gives the definition of historical area,Urban Renewal,Protection and Renovation.It combs the theory and practice research in urban renewal in historic urban area,indoor and outdoor.Then the paper focuses on the case of Heidelberg Old City in Germany and Chongzhou Old City in China.In the comparison of the background in two case cities,the article first refers to the urban climate,scale,population,origin and development process,and the structure of function,traffic and public space in the old city.Subsequently,the paper concluded that the Old City of Heidelberg and Chongzhou are similar in many ways.They have a similar city scales and the origin periods.They both have clear boundary,and are respectively the commercial center of Heidelberg and Chongzhou.In addition,the castle ruins and the "Yanhua" pool are as landmarks and spatial climax in the two old cities.Heidelberg Old City and Chongzhou Old City has a certain degree of comparability.In the comparison of the urban renewal design and practice in two case cities,the facing problems in urban renewal in Heidelberg Old City and Chongzhou Old City are described in detail.Then the article refers to the legal framework,the overall urban renewal scheme,and the urban renewal special design of the two cities.It concludes the differences in urban renewal between Germany and China,for example:Germany is more robust in urban renewal regulations;German urban renewal is mostly"catalyst" type,which pays more attention to the solution to specific problems;Chinese urban renewal,like the Old City of Chongzhou,is more macroscopic and systematic,and it tends to plan control and intention guidance,and has greater market potential.Finally,this paper puts forward some suggestions for the urban renewal in Chongzhou Old City using the experience in Heidelberg Old City.
