As economic globalization is gaining momentum and uncertainties in development are constantly on the rise, global economic order is undergoing a re-shuffle in the post-crisis era. Against this background, China's Ministry of Commerce(MOFCOM)recently worked together with related UN organizations in hosting a series of international seminars with a wide range of themes, in the hope that China and the international community can draw upon each other's experience and achieve win-win results. This interpreting practice was part of the Seminar on International Trade Promotion for Developing Countries held jointly by MOFCOM and United Nations' Conference of Trade and Development(UNCTAD). The lecture was themed by China's Foreign Exchange Rate Reform and the Influence on Foreign Trade, delivered to government officials and business leaders from developing countries, mainly African countries.Chronologically, the speaker introduced the reformative measures of exchange rate adopted by China since late 1970s' Reform and Opening, elaborated on the fluctuations of RMB exchange rate and discussed China's development of foreign trade and how it was influenced by foreign exchange reform. The lecture was aimed at enhancing the developing countries' understanding of China's financial and foreign exchange mechanism and providing references for their own foreign exchange policies. The author served as the interpreter during his internship at China-EU Vocational Training Center(CEVTC), the sponsor of the seminar. The interpretation report is divided into four parts. The first part presents an overview of the background of the lecture and the seminar it belongs to as well as the features of the task. The second part is about the interpretation process, including pre-interpretation efforts, interpretation process description and post-interpretation quality evaluation. In the third part case studies are carried out. Based on some theoretical under-pinning, the authordiscusses the difficulties he encountered in interpreting and the respective solutions, focusing on financial terms, informality of the speech and figure interpreting. The last part is about summary and implications. The report demonstrates the author's reflection on and summary of the interpreting practice, and paves the way for future interpreting career.
