Interpreting For Lectures Of Two Financial And Business Exchange Programs-A Project Report

The corpora of this project were collected from the Victoria-Jiangsu Business Program held by the Jiangsu Federation of Industry and Commerce,and 2019 Seminar on Public Financial Management for Developing Countries sponsored by the Ministry of Commerce,PRC and organized by Shanghai Business School.As the interpreter for these two tasks on finance and business,the reporter confronted four challenges when interpreting.They include unfamiliarity with different accents,unfamiliarity with financial and business terminology,poor data and graph interpretation and redundant expression of the source language.After reflections,the reporter offers solutions to those difficulties based on literature review and the advice from professional interpreters in fiance and business field.For one thing,the interpreter should make full preparation,specifically,recognize features of African English,expand knowledge and terminology concerning finance and business,and improve the reporter's abilities in data and graph interpretation.With regard to output quality,the interpreter needs to put the Interpretive Theory into practice,which calls for deverbalization,clear logic and concise language.Built on the analysis of the field interpreting,this project represents reference for interpreters in consecutive interpretations,particularly,those on finance and business.
