Teaching materials have been one of the three key elements in Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language. With the continuous development and progress of the business of Teaching Chinese as a Foreign language in our country,the construction and research of teaching materials have attracted more and more attention. The compilation of teaching materials should be guided by teaching method and make continuous improvement. At present.the combination of structure, function and culture has become the main guiding ideology of compiling teaching materials. Aimed to cultivate and improve students'ability of expression and communication, the spoken Chinese materials pay more and more attention to the function items. The arrangement of functional items becomes an important factor that affects the communicative and practical characteristics of spoken Chinese materials. Therefore, we analyzed the function items in the primary spoken Chinese materials and found out the advantages and disadvantages in order to provide some suggestions for it.We choose two typical functional spoken Chinese materials as the object of the study and take the syllabuses as reference Then we study the function items in the two textbooks from four aspects, namely the number, type, sequence and repetition rate, in order to find out the reasonable parts and deficiency in the textbooks.There are seven chapters in this thesis. The first chapter is a general introduction of the thesis, including the significance, objects, methods and innovation of the research; besides, the relevant theoretical directions are introduced, such as the Functional Linguistic Theory, the Speech Act Theory and the Theory of Communicative Competence. The previous studies on spoken Chinese materials and function are also summarized in this chapter. In the second chapter we describe the research object concretely, including defining the concepts of "function" and "conversation" and explaining the selection criteria of the two textbooks. The third chapter studies the functional syllabuses and analyses the functional items in them. We calculate the selection rate of each function item in the syllabuses as the standard for analyzing the function items in the textbooks. What's more, we put forward suggestions on the compilation of functional syllabuses. In the fourth and fifth parts we study the function items in the two textbooks. Firstly, we find out all the function items appearing in the textbooks;secondly, we meticulously study the function items in the two textbooks from four aspects, namely the number, type, sequence and repetition rate; lastly, we analyze the reasonable parts and deficiency of the two textbooks in the arrangement of function items. In the sixth chapter, we put forward suggestions for the arrangement of functional items in primary spoken Chinese textbooks based on the above analysis. The last chapter makes a summary of the whole content of the study.
