This thesis explores how beginners approach adjectives in English-Chinese interpretation, studies the differences in adjective interpretation between beginners and an official interpreter, and proposes coping tactics for improving the quality of overall interpretation.Based on Daniel Gile's Effort Model and a brief introduction to adjectives, this thesis summarizes interpreters'effort distribution patterns in the four simultaneous interpretation stages of Listening and Analysis, Production, Memory and Coordination. This thesis studies beginners'performance in interpreting adjectives, presents qualitative analyses on beginners'approaches of word-for-word interpretation, replacement of adjectives, omission, misinterpretation, and analyzes the impact of each approach on the overall quality of interpretation. Based on the qualitative analysis and a comparison of adjective interpretation between beginners and the official interpreter, this thesis proposes suggestions for beginners on how to refine interpretation.
