With computer-assisted translation(CAT) technology being gradually accepted by the translation circle, there are still some people confined to the old perception that CAT and machine translation(MT) technology can only be effective on technical texts and they are not suitable to be applied to the translation of literary and other non-technical texts.Norton History is an ambitious four volume history of the world, with time range from the beginnings of humankind to the present. Therefore the amount of information is very large. Xu Bin and other excellent teachers and their postgraduate students in Foreign Language College, Shandong Normal University made great efforts to translate the great work. The author is one of them.In this report, the author will take her actual translation experience as an example to introduce the application of CAT and MT to the translation of literary and history texts through Xu Bin's “MT+CAT+Post-editing” model. This report also introduces the other translation model, SIU Sai-cheong's “Pre-editing+MT+Post-editing” model. The author also uses her real translation examples to make a comparison between these two models, and aims to forecast the application of these two CAT translation models to the translation of literary and history texts. The report presents an innovative idea to some extent. According to literary research, the author is the first one that experiments XU Bin's and SIU Sai-cheong's translation models on the translation of literary and history texts. The author hopes that these two translation models can make a difference on future translation of literary and history texts even translation of all types of non-technical texts.
