In Chinese language teaching for foreigners, the teaching of Chinese characters is a great challenge. Especially differentiating Chinese characters with similar forms and shapes(CCFS) is a special difficult point in teaching Chinese as a second language. In this paper, the typical teaching material which is the glossary table in Tutorial of Chinese Language(Revised Edition) will serve as the research evidence and foundation. The CCFS in this teaching material will be classified, respectively is the homonym similar characters and different-pronounce similar characters. The author will present the appropriate teaching methods according to the features and characteristics of the CCFS. But in the pragmatical teaching process, the author believes that combining various teaching methods will be advocated as a main teaching system. The teaching methods for different types of similar Chinese characters are not immutable. Additionally, teaching plans will be present respectively in this paper. In order to be beneficial for Chinese characters teaching.The thesis consists of four chapters, the general content of each chapter is as follows:The first chapter is the exordium and introduction. This section discusses the significance of topic selection, the research status, as well as the research methods of this thesis.The second chapter is the classification, differentiation and analysis of the CCFS in the Tutorial of Chinese Language(Revised Edition). In this chapter, this paper will summarizes and review the division standard and classification. The author will divide the CCFS into homonym similar characters and different-pronounce similar characters. Additionally, different-pronounce similar characters will be split into intersecting characters, combined characters and transposed characters.The third chapter is the teaching design and assumptions of CCFS in Tutorial of Chinese Language(Revised Edition). This section will base on the teaching objectives, combine with the content of the second chapter, through using relevant teaching principles and methods thus to present teaching ideas and assumptions.The final chapter is lesson plans devise of similar Chinese characters teaching. In this chapter, the author will select typical homonym similar characters and different-pronounce similar characters, through combine the teaching ideas and assumptions in order to design lesson plans.The final conclusions will summarize the main contents and innovations, as well as shortcomings of this thesis.
