The source text of translation project is Chapter 12 “Computing Energy Efficiency-An Introduction” and Chapter 13 “A Future View: Biomimicry + Technology” from the book Greening IT: How Greener IT Can Form a Solid Foundation for a Low-Carbon Society. Editors of the book are Irene Nicolajsen Sobotta, Adrian Thomas Sobotta and John Gtze, and it was published in 2010. The book mainly tells that the scientists try their best to look for new ways to control the global climate change, which provides a reference for environmental-friendly work. Through the project, Chinese readers can learn the ideas and measures about environmental protection from the West to serve our country.Based on Reiss' text typology, the source text is an informative text. The translator should follow Newmark's strategy of communicative translation when translating it. This report gives a detailed description of the focal and difficult points the translator encountered during the translation process. At lexical level, difficult points include choice of word meaning, conversion of part of speech and translation of proper names; at syntactic level, the report focuses on the translation of long and difficult sentences. The translator selects the corresponding translation techniques(translation in original order, reverse translation, division and combination) to deal with them under the guidance of communicative translation. The report also summarizes the inspiration and unsolved problems in the process of translation.
