This is a translation report of Chapter Two and Chapter Three of China’s Road Ahead: Problems, Questions, Perspectives, written by Roland Benedikter, a research scholar of the Orfalea Center for Global and International Studies of the University of California at Santa Barbara, in collaboration with Verena Nowotny, an Austrian independent expert for public affairs. The author of this reportfirst describes the main contents, structure, and the linguistic features of the source text, and then focuses on the difficulties encountered and their solutions. In the process of E-C translation of this international political text, the author came across some challenges. Guided by the Skopos theory, specific solutions were used to solve the understanding and expressingdifficulties, including translation methods such as following the original syntactic order, turning phrases into clauses, reinventing sentence structures, semantic extension, and addition and omission. This report is composed of five parts. The first part introduces the background and significance of the translation project, followed by source text analysis in Part 2, Skopos theory in Part 3 and translation difficulties and coping strategies in Part 4. The last part draws a conclusion, offering some experiences, lessons andlimitations of this report.
