A Report On The Chinese-English Translation Of Bidding Documents Of X Gas Station Of SINOPEC(Excerpt)

With the integration of the world economy,China's enterprises in the bidding industry are also increasingly standardized.If there is dispute in the bidding process,the English version of the contract will be referred to.Therefore,the quality of the translation for bidding documents has a direct impact on the interests of both parties.The report is written according to the X Gas Station of SINOPEC Bidding Documents.It is the specific instructions for the X gas station renovation of the construction side.There are more than 50000 words of the project,and the translator translated the first five parts,totaling more than 10000 words.In this report,the author introduces the characteristics of bidding text and X Gas Station of SINOPEC Bidding Documents,and under the guidance of functional equivalence theory,the author analyses the typical cases encountered in the translation,including two parts: first,from lexical level the technical ter ms and modal verbs;second,from syntactic level the long sentences,sentences without subject,active voice and passive voice sentences.Based on them,the author develops translation strategies including taking the reference to parallel text,adopting division and addition,and changing from passive voice to active voice and others.Finally,the author makes a brief summary of the translation task and hopes to provide some reference for further study through the translation practice.
