A Practice Report On The Translation Of Introduction To The Scenic Spots In Fuzhou City

China's profound historical culture and diverse geographical environment have always drawn foreigners to have sightseeing tours. Meanwhile, with the success of Beijing Olympic Games and Shanghai World Expo, the presence of China's tourism industry grows in the tertiary industry. Tourism is the vehicle of increasing the culture communication among countries. So the translation of tourism ads, tourist attractions and tour guide presentations has become conspicuous increasingly. On May 28 th, 2015, the author received the translation task from Fuzhou Municipal Tourism Bureau-- the English translation of introduction to Fuzhou's 15 key tourism scenic spots, including Dream Lake Scenic Region, Celebrity Sculpture Garden, Rushui Forest Park, Fuzhou Culture Park, and Mount. Junfeng, etc.. The task is quite difficult, with 9,866 Chinese characters to be translated within two months. In the process of translation, the translator applies the translation methods, skills and strategies to the practice. In the meantime, she tackles the difficulties with the translation skills, hence her translation competence is enhanced.The translation practice report starts with the translation task that the translator accepts. Guided by Skopos theory, the translator introduces the completion process of translation practice, and analyzes and discusses the main translation methods that are employed by cases. Moreover, the translation practice is concluded at last. The entire report consists of four sections. The first section is an introduction to the task origin, client's requirements, characteristics of tourism text, and competence of the translator. The second part discusses the translation progress, including the preparation, implementation and proofreading of the translation. The third chapter analyzes the translation strategies that appear in the cases, at the lexical, syntactical and practical level. During the course, it also reviews the existing difficult points and a brief summary of case analysis. The last section gives a conclusion of client's feedback and evaluation on translation, problems yet to be solved, experience and harvest on the practice, and suggestions on the tourism translation.The significance of the report is that to analyze the translation progress through the practical experience of the translator, and summarize the principles and methods that the English translation of the introductions to attractions adopts. And the translator hopes that the report can provide advice for the research and practice on the English translation of the introductions to the local scenic spots. More importantly than all of that, it can promote the profound culture of “Land of Wit”-Fuzhou everywhere.
