Due to its growing influence, China has attracted more and more attention worldwide.Policies of Chinese government influence and promote the development of not only China but also other countries or regions. They desire to know about China, and China also needs to go out for cooperation with other countries for common development. Therefore, the translation of political texts is playing an increasingly important role in publicizing policies, presenting national profile, and fostering development. At present, the research into political texts in China is mainly conducted from the perspective of functionalism, domestication and foreignization, yet there is still a larger space to improve translation quality. The application of parallel text offers a new perspective for the translation of political texts in that such text is solely aimed at improving translation quality and is conducive to the discovery and effective solution of problems in translation. The thesis is composed of five chapters: introduction; literature review; contrastive analysis between English and Chinese political texts; strategies for applying parallel texts to translation of political texts; and conclusion. First, the definition and basic features of political texts are illustrated. Second, the present researches of parallel texts are combed through. Third, the possibility of the application of parallel texts in translation is explained. Fourth, a comparison is conducted of political texts between Chinese and English from the perspective of vocabulary, syntax, and discourse. Fifth, strategies for applying parallel texts to translation of political texts are proposed. The thesis is the case study of Chapter 4 and Chapter 6 from China's Reform: Hot Spots Clarified Face to Face, pointing out that parallel texts can conveniently help translators to find accurate terms and idiomatic expressions, and to find appropriate sentence patterns for the faithful representation of the original author's intention; so as to properly fulfill the purpose of translation.
