The Spring and Autumn period is the turbulent one of the Zhou dynasty, during which the multicultural surges in the history of China.Qi and Chu are all the great powers, which decides the two states' culture play very important roles and have profound influence in China's history. From the point of view of history development, the alliance in Shaoling not only constitutes the origin of the history of the communication of Qi and Chu,but influences the trend of the history of the Spring and autumn period.First of all,the alliance in Shaoling is the first confrontation of the two states during the Spring and autumn period,by which,Qi reaches the peak of accomplishments of obtaining the dominant position because of Chu's yield and Chu makes the start of the competition of hegemony benefiting from the recognition of the Huaxia nation by the Central eight countries which are headed by Qi;secondly, the alliance raises the curtain of the competition of hegemony between Chu and other traditional central states, which establishes the keynote of the middle and late of the Spring and autumn period's history. From the development of the culture, the Spring and autumn period is the period of thriving growth.Because of the similarities and differences of natural and cultural environment between Qi and Chu,the two states' culture both have similarities and distinctions. In the political culture, the biggest similarity between the two is the lesser national prejudice. For Qi,the governors represented by Guan Zhong and Huan Gong accept Chu's identity of big kingdom abandoning the prejudice;for Chu,it lesser participate in the enterprise of getting rid of barbarian while dominating the Central region. The reason profits from the cultural environment of staying with the indigenous peoples. And the difference is that Qi advocates change and Chu encourages obedience. In the material culture, there is the obvious generality. On one hand,it is embodied in the consciousness of innovation included in the handmade articles. For example, compared with the bronze ware made by the Zhou Dynasty, the bronze ware made by Qi and Chu all present distinct features both in shapes and decorations. And the pioneering spirit reflected in the commercial development of the two states, which can be proved by abundant shell money is another evidence. And the differences are reflected in the food and clothing rooting in the differences of agricultural and sideline products as well as types of handicraft. For agrotype,Qi is the typical dry farming while Chu is the rice agriculture;for handicraft,Qi is good at spinning and smelting as well as casting, while Chu does well in smelting as well as casting of metal and the manufactures of jade artical as well as lacquer;for the commercial development,Qi's domestic and international business both thrive, while Chu's foreign trade is much more better. In the thought culture, the biggest common point is that both the two have the Taoist spirit of obedience and ample dialectics thoughts. For Qi,the former shows the Taoist spirit manifested in the ideology of Guan Zhong and Yan Ying and the rudiment of Jing Qi theory, for Chu,it is performed in Taoism mastered in Lao Tzu;for Qi,the later is performed in dialectics thoughts stemming from political practice, and for Chu,it is performed in the dialectical cognition deriving from Chuese's,especially Lao Tzu's process of exploring the nature and scanning the history. And the difference is that Qi advocates law and discipline rite at the same time while Chu is on the opposite. The two states' history and culture during the Spring And Autumn Period, show the history's process and features as well as the culture's connotation and achievements, while it affects the society's process from division to unity and the culture's development from multielement to fusion of the Warring States Time.
