A Study On C-E Translation Of Gansu Tourism Texts From The Perspective Of Stylistics

As one of the birthplaces of the Chinese nation as well as one of the cradles of Chinese ancient civilization, Gansu has rich and varied tourism resources. In recent years, more and more foreign tourists have come to Gansu with the development of tourism. In order to publicize the tourism resources of Gansu to foreign visitors effectively, the translation of tourism texts has received more attention. Many scholars have made related studies from different perspectives. This thesis intends to make a study on C-E translation of Gansu tourism texts from the perspective of stylistics. It aims to find out the stylistic similarities and differences between the English tourism texts and the Chinese tourism texts of Gansu, then detect the problems in the C-E translation of Gansu tourism texts and use proper translation methods to improve the translation quality.In order to achieve this goal, three corpora are built: corpus of Chinese tourism texts(CCTT), corpus of English tourism texts(CETT) and corpus of C-E translation of tourism texts(CCETTT). The materials are from the official tourism website and booklets of Gansu, the official tourism websites of English-speaking countries. Through analyzing the stylistic features between CCTT and CETT from the lexical, syntactical and textual levels, the similarities and differences between them are found out.To meet the foreigners' reading tastes, the stylistic features of English tourism texts should be embodied in the translated texts. The author intends to find out the problems in C-E translation of Gansu tourism texts. Through analysis, the problems mainly focus on the following aspects:(1) word redundancy;(2) rhetorical problems;(3) impersonal problems;(4) lacking of explanation;(5) Subjectlessness.In view of the above translation problems, four translation methods are listed as following:(1) addition;(2) deletion;(3) rewriting;(4) summarization. It is hoped that these translation methods are useful to deal with the above problems, and make the translated texts accepted and understood easily by foreign readers.It is hoped that the study can not only provide a reference to the C-E translation of Gansu tourism texts, but also plays a positive role in promoting Gansu tourism publicity.
