Nouns of locality are an important yet quite particular type of word that are used with high frequency in Chinese.Its grammatical characteristics and semantic function are complicated which create difficulties for Vietnamese students in the learning process.“li,zhong,nei” are synonymic nouns of locality,therefore,when studying or using these words,lots of students easily make mistake or could not understand the context in which each word is used.On the other hand,there is difference in spatial cognitive thinking between Chinese and Vietnamese people,demonstrated by the fact that Chinese nouns of locality “li,zhong,nei”correspond to only one Vietnamese word “trong”.As a result,Vietnamese students usually have misunderstanding when using these words.This paper,based on extensive literature research,focuses on the analysis of the similarities and differences between Chinese nouns of locatily “li,zhong,nei” and Vietnamese “trong”.In addition,according to the self-conducted survey of how Vietnamese students have been using these three words and their common misunderstandings,this paper also analyzed those mistakes,which is expected to be helpful for Vietnamese student studying Chinese nouns of locality,Chinese students studying Vietnamese nouns of locality,and Chinese-Vietnamese translation.
