| With more and more press conference held in China in recent times, press conference interpreting has also become a hot issue for researchers in translation circle. This thesis is devoted to studying Foreign Minister Wang Yi’s press conference in 2014, the content of which mainly refers to the two sensitive topics:foreign policies and diplomatic relations. As the new foreign minister in 2014, Wang Yi has his own speech characteristics, as the interpreter of this press conference, Sun Ning has the excellent language logic, so it is of practical significance to study his interpreting activity, especially in coping with the long sentences,.As the core theory of German Functionalist Approach, Vermeer’s Skopos Theory focuses on the choice of different purposes in the translation process, which holds that what methods an interpreter should use depends on the translation purposes. From the perspective of Skopos Theory, the press conference held by the Foreign Ministry is a complicated activity with multiple purposes, such as stating China’s diplomatic policies, maintaining diplomatic relations between the countries and solving the people’s livelihood etc., but the general purpose is to realize the cross-lingual and cross cultural communication between the countries.This thesis mostly adopts the qualitative method, analyzes Wang Yi’s press conference target text under the guidance of Skopos Theory and three basic principles to explore and discuss the interpreting strategies and skills for realizing the target interpretation. As the key chapter of this thesis, chapter four puts forward more than ten major interpreting strategies and skills, they are:word property transformation, literal interpretation, free interpretation, omitting, changing, addition, combination, order adjusting, recasting and voice transformation from two major aspects. These strategies and skills will play a demonstrative role of developing other interpreting activities. |
