A Practice Report On The Interpretation Of An International Conference

An international business conference was held in Pakistan, jointly organized by AVIC,a state-owned enterprise from China, and Rohli Cement Plant(RCPL), a well-known company in Sukkur city of Pakistan, on July 8th, 2015. The author attended this conference as an interpreter. This report is based on this consecutive interpreting practice. The theme of the conference is mainly about purchasing product and discussing the process of the project.This report can be divided into five parts, namely, task description, process description,preparation for interpretation, case analyses and summary. The first part is a general introduction of the source and content of this task. The second part is an overall description of the process of this task. The main body of this report is the preparation for interpretation and case analyses. Preparation for interpretation consists of four parts, including collection of background knowledge, vocabulary preparation, preparation for Pakistani English and other preparations. Case analyses part is based on the interpretation record and notes while the cases are analyzed by specific interpreting skills. Besides, the author also takes the typical situations happened at the conference as examples, summarizing the corresponding strategies used at site. Finally, with the help of the senior’s guidance and his own practical experience, the author makes a summary, hoping to offer some references to the interpreters who will encounter the same or familiar situations in the future.
