A Practice Report On Consecutive Interpretation At The International Conference On Salt-affected Soils

The report is completed based on the interpreter’s interpreting practice for the International Conference on Salt-Affected Soils on September 7 to 9,2022.The interpreter was recruited to work as an interpreter in the conference,and was responsible for the Chinese-English translation of the Commentary on the exhibition hall of Weifang National Comprehensive Pilot Zone for Agriculture Opening up and Development.As one of the important interpretation theories,the Interpretive Theory claims that the objective of interpretation is not the language but rather the “sense”.Guided by this theory,the interpreter employed corresponding interpreting methods in her completion of the interpreting task,which proves that this theory plays an important role in interpreting.This report is composed of five chapters.Chapter One is a description of the task,which introduces the task background,linguistic features of the source discourse,and the significance and structure of this report.Chapter Two is an overview of the task process,covering the preparation stage of the task,the description when the task processes,and the feedback and self-assessment after the task.Chapter Three introduces the theoretical framework applied by the report,expounds the concept of interpretive theory,introduces the representative meaning of the triangular model of interpretive theory in detail,and shows its theoretical and applied significance.Chapter Four makes case analysis of the interpretation task under the guidance of the interpretive theory,and analyzes the performance of comprehension,de-verbalization from source language and re-expressing at lexical,syntactic and textural level with such interpreting methods as addition,omission,conversion,sentence linearity,reorganization,literal translation and adding cohesive devices.Chapter Five mainly summarizes the shortcomings in interpreting,puts forward the countermeasures,and makes suggestions for the future.
