This translation report material extracts from He Is My Husband, which is written by Lindsay Armstrong, a popular romantic writer in Australia. The translator chooses Chapter Three and Chapter Four as translation material. These two chapters mainly talk about unhappy marriage between Brett and Nicola. The translator adopts Skopos theory and its three principles to guide the translation process. During translation process, the translator takes specific methods to solve the problems. For idioms, due to the differences between Chinese and Western cultures, the translator takes liberal method, adheres to the skopos rule and translates these words according to Chinese expression habits. For portrait description in source text, the translator adopts literal method, adheres to the coherence and fidelity rule and makes the translation reflect the characteristics of western dress and appearance. For rhetoric devices in source text, the translator uses liberal method, adheres to the skopos rule, coherence rule and loyalty rule and translates rhetoric devices as appropriate Chinese tenor and vehicle. For dialogues in source text, the translator adopts liberal method to make sentences more coherent and fluent, in line with the context. Furthermore, the wording of the novel is not florid but elaborate; the plots seem simple yet arouse rich meaning in life. By showing Western women's attitude to marriage, family and career, the translator wants to give inspirations to target readers, especially to female readers. This translation report aims to raise the awareness of the translators about the requirements of literary translation, by way of analyzing the application of Skopos theory in literary translation. A good translator needs to overcome cultural differences, understand the meaning of the text properly in the process of translation, presenting better and faithful translation. At the same time, the translator should make unremitting efforts and maintain the enthusiasm for literary translation.
