A Report On The Translation Of Feasibility Study Report Of CCCC Indonesia Ship Repair And Storage Base Project

With the development of international globalization and the promotion of China’s comprehensive strength, more and more Chinese corporations tend to undertake overseas projects to enhance technical exchange and cooperation with other countries.Under such circumstance, translation of project files is really important and necessary and translators are required to be excellent and professional enough.This is a translation report, based on the Feasibility Study Report of CCCC Indonesia Ship Repair and Storage Base Project commissioned by China Communications Construction Company Limited(CCCC). The author translated this project during the internship in Transn(China) Technology Co., Ltd. Due to the time limit and great difficulty of the material, the author just translated the first four chapters:general information, project compliance, necessity and feasibility of construction,project objective and positioning.Under the guidance of Newmark’s translation theory, this report conducts and discusses the Chinese-English translation of project feasibility study report. As the report presents, project feasibility study report belongs to technological text which is used to convey information(informative function) and produce results(vocative function). Thus, both semantic translation and communicative translation should be adopted. Semantic translation is employed to reserve the original content and structure,as much as possible; communicative translation is employed in the parts in which the original structure is hard to retain, non-subjective sentences and some long sentences for instance, in order to conform to the language features and expression habits of the target language, and to convey the original contents of the source text to target readers furthest.This translation project is under the guidance of Newmark’s translation theory which has great significance in Chinese-English translation of project feasibility study report and in improving the translator’s translating ability. Meanwhile, as one useful attempt of Chinese-English translation of project feasibility study report, this translation practice has certain reference value for improving translation quality of similar texts.
