Sight interpreting is a special pattern of interpretation which combines "reading" and "interpreting". With the strengthening of international communication and the rapid development in the translation career, it has now gained great attention for its special features and usefulness. Therefore, it was sub-divided into two modes, namely, Sight Interpreting and Sight Translation. Today, sight interpreting plays a more and more significant role not only in teaching but on business occasions, such as business meetings and international symposiums. In view of this, the essay will explore the techniques of Syntactic Linearity in E-C sight interpreting on the basis of Effort Models Theory for interpreting put forward by Mr Daniel Gile. In discussion, the findings of the predecessors in this field are integrated with my own experience. The subject of this essay will be approached at three levels, systematically from three cognitive loads:reading, listening and interpreting, by means of analytic reasoning, illustration and contrast. This essay aims to alleviate the interpreter's pressure in sight interpreting and finally improve the interpreting quality and provide some reference for the research in the development of sight interpreting. The author supposes this is where this essay enjoys both theoretical and practical meaning.
