Through a study of piano structure and a physics-based study of piano-playing skills, this paper was aimed to find the correlation between them from a physics-based perspective. All the piano-playing skills in this paper were analyzed based on physics, which were not piano-playing skills in the conventional sense but elevated to a theoretical height by finding a breakthrough point in physics. On this basis,piano-playing skills were related to piano structure. Finally, specific examples were cited to explain the aforesaid theory,as well as to express and supplement the author's argument. This paper is composed of three major parts:The first section is chiefly about the history of piano shape and structure. The author first traces the shape and structure of the piano's predecessors: the monochord invented by Pythagoras of ancient Greece, the Persian psaltery and dulcimer, and the clavichord and harpsichord from the Renaissance and Baroque eras. This is followed by a segment specifically about the piano, depicting the new history of piano development from its invention of Cristofori in the Baroque period to the final determination of the shape and structure of modern piano. In the second part, the author described the piano structure in use now,piano-playing skills seen from a physics-based perspective, and the relationship between several important components of the piano structure and piano-playing skills seen from a physics-based perspective. In the third part, the author tried to explain the relationship between the piano structure and piano-playing skills seen from a physics-based perspective by citing some specific musical works,to provide a practical basis for the theory presented in the second part.
