An Analysis Of Incoherent Phenomena And Solutions In C-E Interpreting From The Perspective Of Effort Coordination

With the development of globalization, communication among nations become increasingly frequent, not only in economic and political fields, but also in cultural aspects. One obvious change is that we can see more and more English programs interpreted into Chinese nowadays. But it is rare to find some Chinese programs to be broadcast abroad, which triggers the author’s thoughts to interpret some for letting foreigners know Chinese culture better, especially exploring the mystery of our geography. To disseminate Chinese culture, especially about the mysteries of geography,this paper is a simulated interpreting practice based on a Chinese TV program Changeable Ridge to analyze the incoherent phenomena and solutions in Chinese to English consecutive interpreting from the perspective of effort coordination and recording the interpreting process.Because of the professional fields of this program, geographical background and knowledge, which requires the interpreter to do a lot of preparations such as searching information, setting up vocabularies, etc. During the interpreting process, the author met some challenges and made conclusions on the analysis of the incoherent phenomena and the solutions from the perspective of effort coordination. All of which will offer experience and solutions for the interpreting work in the future.This paper consists of three parts, including introduction, main body and conclusion.The first is an introduction,illustrating the background and the studying value of the interpreting TV program Geography of China.The second is the main body, including three chapters.The first part is task description. It illustrates the background of the Geography of China and introduces the program of the Changeable Ridge and the theory of Gile’s Effort Model, and requirements to the interpreter in consecutive interpreting.The second part introduces the process description. It analyzes stage of pre-interpretation such as vocabulary preparing and tools checking. Then the writer illustrates interpreting process and the quality of interpretation.The third part is case analysis. (Firstly, the writer analyzes the incoherent phenomena. Then the writer analyzes the factors causing the incoherent phenomena. The third sets the solutions used to solve the incoherent problems.) Through analyzing the incoherent phenomena during the process of interpreting, the author found some solutions to solve this problem under the instruction of Gile’s Effort Model with some examples.The last is conclusion, it is a summary of the whole paper and indicates the purpose of writing this paper and analyzes the incoherent phenomena and solutions based on the theory of effort coordination and the whole consecutive interpreting process. In this part,the writer concluded some precious experience which is useful for the interpreting work for the future.
