Since the 1990s,China's economic modernization has entered into a new stage.At the same time,"migrant workers groups" as a new process with the modernization development,began to emerge in the vision of the mass media.From the beginning of the 1990s,the images of "migrant workers" were presented in independent documentaries which are about the social documentary themes.Especially from the mid-late 1990s,the use of DV cameras has led to the expansion of the independent documentary creators.These creators always focus on the story of individual life and the fate of little man.The migrant workers not only reflects the process of urbanization in China,as the individual in social life,the social status and identity change of whom have also become a microcosm of China in the process of urbanization.And it is also a symbol between country and city.The individual status of migrant workers is the main subject of independent documentary creation.In the face of an embarrassing dilemma of "Not into the city,back home",their living conditions and labor production status are the focus of the independent documentary narrative framework.In the present society of urbanization,their personal desire and discourse expression are gradually highlighted,showing an individual consciousness trying to break through the social bondage and present as a subject in the documentary.This paper attempts to study how the independent documentary uses the image text and narrative material to shape the main image of migrant workers in the 1990s.Moreover,in the multiple complexities in of social power and gender relations,whether the individual migrant workers in the real historical process can express the body consciousness and the self-expression of the discourse subject through the image of the independent documentary.The first chapter is a unified study of the authors of independent documentary since the 1990s.The article will be from the creators,ideas,style and characteristics of these four perspectives of research,and analyze how these factors affect the image creation of independent documentary.And then analyze the image of migrant workers constructed under the perspective of independent documentary creators.The second chapter is the study of migrant workers in independent documentary.The study will be divided into three aspects:production mechanism,social context and individual consciousness,to analyze the formation mechanism of migrant workers in independent documentary,so as to compare with the images of migrant workers in the real society.The third chapter is to study the image of female migrant workers in independent documentary as a case analysis.Female migrant workers are disadvantaged in both social and gender fields.In the face of the dual pressures from external societies and internal families,the awakening of their subjective consciousness is manifested in the contraction of gender politics in social power and the breakthrough in patriarchy within the family.This paper analyzes how the female migrant workers in the independent documentary can realize the subjective consciousness through the body discourse and the individual struggle.
