Report On The Creation Of The Documentary "Where To Go"

Since the 1990s,large numbers of migrant workers poured into the cities,becoming the labor force in the process of China's reform and opening up.It has also become a social group with considerable size,identity and unique status in the city.With the acceleration of urbanization,new generation of migrant workers is growing up.The problem of the new generation of migrant workers is the continuation,embodiment and development of the traditional problem of migrant workers in the new era,new stage and new situation.They are more eager to become "citizens" than the first generation of migrant workers,but they still face a conflict situation between the countryside they can't go back and the reality of the city they can't live in.In this social environment,the author focus on the new generation of migrant workers.Shi Donghai,the hero of the film,has land in the countryside,but he doesn't have to farm it.He has a job in the city but has no entitlement to social security.After struggling in Shanghai for more than 20 years,Shi Donghai finally has a home but still unable to solve the problems of household registration and children's education.He wants to bring his left-behind father to live together in Shanghai,but he still faces the reality that the living environment is too narrow to accommodate such a large family.Instead of following their path and becoming third generation migrant workers,he wants his children to receive a good education and become a new urban population.The family yearned for the city and made great contributions to the development of the city,but they were not accepted by the city and became the marginal population living in a corner of the city.Through real records,this film showed the living conditions of ordinary migrant workers in China,and further explored the realistic and psychological situation of the new generation of migrant workers when they cannot go back to hometown or integrate into the city.From the perspective of documentary creators,this paper expounds the creation concept,creation background and creation process of the film.The author combines similar theme films,summarizes the experiences and shortcomings in the process of film creation.In the end,the author further explores the narrative strategy,spatial narrative and image expression from an academic perspective.
