In order to expand the international influence and improve the soft power of Chinese culture,China implements "the Culture's Going Global Strategy" through cultural communication and publicity with foreign countries to shape the cultural image of a large country.In intercultural communication,the city publicity texts are important means to display its image for it exhibits the culture and features of the city.If the Chinese city desires to occupy one place and construct its cultural image in the international arena,it's important to study the city publicity text translation.The means and approaches of city publicity texts can be found out through the study of the translation strategies and city publicity texts.The author of this thesis,who takes Baoding city publicity texts as an example,analyzes the translation tactics on the lexical,syntactic and discourse levels and the translation problems from the perspective of intercultural communication.In order to deal with the problems in translation,such as misspelling,capital letter problem,punctuation misuse,grammatical and proper noun problems,Chinglish,under-translation and pragmatic failure,the factors are summarized and suggestions are put forward,namely,to be faithful to the source text,to enhance the intercultural awareness and to be receiver-oriented.All these studies will provide references for Chinese city publicity texts and help the city to build up its image so as to lay the solid foundation of Chinese cities to go global and construct their images.
