Soft Computing in Humanities and Social Sciences is co-edited by Rudolf Seising and Veronica Sanz and published by Springer-Verlag in 2012.The book,divided into six parts,introduces the specific application of soft computing in humanities and social sciences.The research of soft computing is limited to engineering control.Soft Computing in Humanities and Social Sciences combines soft computing with humanities and social sciences,which is a totally new area in China.The present author was assigned 1.1 to 1.6 in the first part of the book as translation task,which accounts the development of hard science and computing to soft science and computing.This report analyses the language features and resulting translation difficulties of the original text and attempts to provide workable translation methods.The report is divided into five chapters.Chapter One is a brief introduction to the project,including its background and significance.Chapter Two presents the stages of preparation before translation,translation process,and proofreading after translation.Chapter Three analyses the language features of the source text respectively from lexical,lexical-syntactic,syntactic and textual levels and indicates the translation difficulties.Chapter Four,as the main body of the report,discusses the methods of translating terminology,nominalization,long-difficult sentences and discourse cohesive devices.Chapter Five reveals the lessons,findings and deficiencies in translating the text of science-technology literature,Soft Computing in Humanities and Social Sciences.
