A Report On The Translation Of English For Science And Technology

With the further development of global economic integration,the scientific and technological ties between countries are getting increasingly close,and people's demand for scientific and technological exchanges is rising.English,as the official language of the world,has laid the foundation for the exchange and dissemination of science and technology and other information.With more and more advanced technology and knowledge pouring into China,the translation of EST is irresistible.For a long time,people have paid close attention to EST translation,but in some narrower scientific fields,such as textile laundering,the translation research is quite scarce,and related translation practices are in a minority.In order to enhance people's understanding of textile laundering technology and promote the spread and application of advanced laundering technology in China,the author selects part of Textile Laundering Technology as the translation materials,aiming to explore the translation strategies and methods fit for the translation of EST.This paper analyzes the semantic and syntactic features of the source text by means of text analysis and case study,and adopts different translation methods and strategies for different linguistic difficulties in line with the EST translation principles of accuracy,conciseness,and scientificity.For example,specialized terms generally have corresponding Chinese expressions.For those without fixed translations,the author adopts literal or free translation based on her own understanding of the source text;most of the nominalization structures are converted into subject-predicate or other structures;as for the long complicated sentences,the author divides them into short sentences and then adjusts the order;and so on.According to the characteristics of EST,and giving full consideration to the differences between Chinese and English,the author demonstrates the practicability and effectiveness of the various translation methods and strategies in EST translation with a large number of examples.This translation practice enables the author to have a more systematic comprehension of the translation of EST.To do a good job in translating EST texts,the translator must not only have a high level of bilingualism,but also master the professional knowledge involved in the material,so as to reproduce the original text faithfully and accurately on the basis of a thorough understanding of the original text.Through this translation practice,the author hopes to provide some references for translators engaged in EST translation,especially in textile laundering technology translation,and to help the laundering workers have a deeper understanding of this industry.
