| Along with the rapid development of our economy,an increasing number of Chinese people are engaged in overseas investment,or choose to become immigrants.Accordingly,more and more contracts for the sale of commercial housing require translating.As sales contracts,such contracts,which possess legal effect,are characterized by precise language and clear logic.The greatest challenge with which translators of such contracts are faced consists in transferring them to quite idiomatic and logically clear versions in the targeted language,especially in English,within a short fixed time.The features of words and expressions as well as sentence structures are mainly analyzed in this thesis,and the solutions to the translation difficulties are put forward.This report is aimed to provide enlightenment for translation of contracts of the sale of commercial housing and to help improve their translation.Taking two contracts of the sale of commercial housing as examples,the writer states the current status quo and outlook of translation of housing contracts,describes a complete translation process from preliminary preparations,translation phases,and proof-reading to the clients' appraisal.Besides,the writer makes a case study on translating difficult words,expressions and sentences by analyzing typical examples from the two contracts,and points out the difficulties in translation and provides their solutions.In the writer's opinion,there is always a specific demand in legal translation,and an outstanding translation should be in accordance with the text type as well as the request of clients.Being loyal to the original work to the greatest extent,a translator may strive to achieve a completely equivalent legal translation to make the target readers understand,as well as maintain the same legal effect of the two documents.Besides,the writer emphasizes the importance of parallel texts for the translation,which are one of the most valuable materials for reference. |
