A Report On C-E Translation Of Technical Words In Beijing Commercial Housing Presale Contract

Business contracts have the legal effect regulating the rights and obligations of the contracting parties.For the purpose of avoiding any ambiguity and misunderstanding,the language of the contract should be stricter,accurate and more formal.Therefore,as a legal text,this business contract features many technical terms and specialized words that are developed from ordinary words.By taking the technical words in the Beijing Commercial Housing Presale Contract as an example,under the guidance of skopos theory and functional equivalence theory,some problems in translating technical words of the contract are analyzed and summarized and the writer finally get some inspirations in the translation practice.For technical terms,conventional translation,picking up the right words and free translation are adopted;for specialized words,choosing synonyms properly and addition techniques are used to express the meaning of the original text correctly and more effectively.Through the translation practice,the writer's experience and cognition of Chinese-English legal translation has been further improved with the conclusion of a set of more practical translation methods and techniques on some typical legal texts.It is hoped that it can be a supplement to the translation of business contracts in the future.
