A great many Children's literature works had been introduced from abroad to China since the May 4th Movement. The domestic Children's literature creation of China was thus inspired and developed quickly. As an outstanding representative among the Children's literature writers, Ye Shengtao created a unique realistic fairy tale style and wrote many good works. The Ye Shengtao fairy tales has an important educative effect of children as well as adult readers. Therefore, it is of great significance to translate his fairy tales into English and introduce his works to foreign children readers.This is a translation report. It mainly focuses on the Chinese to English translation of Ye Shengtao's fairy tales including "the Scarecrow", a representative works of his realistic fairy tale works. Based on the translation performance of Ye Shengtao's fairy tales, this report discusses in details with concrete translation examples all the translation strategies and skills employed in the translation. Finally, this report makes summary of the whole translation process in the hope of offering some useful suggestions to people who will make similar fairy tale translations. There are four main parts in this report. The first part introduces the translation program including the translation background and significance of the translation; the second part studies the translation process, namely, the selection of the text and preparation before translating; the third part introduces the guiding theory employed in the whole process of translation and the translation methods; the fourth part makes detailed study of the translation with concrete translating examples including the analysis from the lexical aspect, syntactical aspect and rhetorical aspect.
