A Report On The English Chinese Translation Of Imperative Sentences In Modern Manners

Imperative sentences have always been considered as a face-threatening act for the addressee.However,imperative sentences are not only frequently used in the business discourses,but also are possessed with different functions which can be used by authors to meet their different pragmatic intentions,such as the transmission of culture,the saving of article length and the communication with readers.From the standpoint of the translation of imperative sentences,the author studies the translation issues of imperative sentences in the book Modern Manners.Due to the differences of language structures between Chinese and English and the communicative habits,Chinese and English imperative sentences have both similarities and contrasts.As a result,when imperative sentences are translated,we are asked to understand and master both the meaning of the original text and the tone of the author.Only if we take different translation strategies according to the text,can we reconstructing the tone of the original text and guarantee the quality of the translated text.The researches and studies of imperative sentences of both English and Chinese are very few,not to speak of the translation of them.According to the imperative sentences appeared in the book,the author divided them into two types:the general imperative sentences and the special imperative sentences,and different translation strategies are applied to these two types.The strategies for the translation of the general imperative sentences mainly include translating by mood,literal translation,and amplification.The strategies for the translation of the special imperative sentences are dependent on the different sentence types.The purposes of the report are to better interpret and translate imperative sentences in the process of translation,to help the readers to learn the international business manners well,and to promote the development of the translation of business literature.
