The purpose of popular science text is to popularize social and natural scientific knowledge and foster people's scientific spirit. With the rapid economic development, the government has attached more importance to the development of the popular science text.Meanwhile, with the accelerating process of economic globalization and wider application of information technologies, more and more foreign popular science articles have been introduced to China. Therefore, the translation of popular science text is of great value. The translation practice materials mainly involve three fields, namely health, ecological environment and biological evolution. Some popular science knowledge could be spread and popularized through this translation practice. For example, vitamins can't prevent cancers, breakfast won't help boost metabolism, tropical rainforest is under threat and so on.From the perspective of translation, popular science translation is the bridge of gaining knowledge from abroad and transferring knowledge to foreign countries. No matter hundreds of years ago and the information explosion today, popular science translation has made great contribution to the development of China's science and technology. Many foreign science articles are translated into Chinese by a large number of translators. It not only spreads scientific knowledge, but also promotes international exchanges and cooperation.Scientific, literary, popular and interesting are four significant characteristics of popular science text.Hans J.Vermeer, the representative personage of the German Functionalist School, put forward the Skopos Theory and indicated that translation should follow the three rules—skopos rule, coherence rule and fidelity rule, which get rid of the domination of source-text-oriented approach.Based on the Scientist, the translation practice will analyze some problems encountered in the translation process and come up with some useful translation strategies.Under the guidance of the three rules, these translation problems could be solved successfully. In the process of translation, the author should adhere to the coherence rule and fidelity rule on the base of the skoposrule. The practice report attempts to provide some reference for the translation of popular science text based on the Skopos Theory. This translation practice report consists of five chapters. In the first chapter, the description of the task, including the background, will be introduced.Besides, description of the popular science text, including recent development, major features, types and significance will be given. What's more, the layout of the report will be recommended. The second chapter introduces translation process, which includes the preparations for the translation, the translation process and the reviews of this translation. The third chapter is the theoretical basis. The three rules of the Skopos Theory, including the skopos rule, the coherence rule and the fidelity rule, will be described in detail. The fourth chapter is the crucial part of the whole report. The author will describe in detail how we can improve our translation by combining the three rules of the Skopos Theory. Some examples will be analyzed from the perspective of the skpos rule, the coherence rule and the fidelity rule. The last chapter is the conclusion of the translation practice. Both the findings and the limitations which appeared in the process of translation and the research will be given. Also some suggestions for further practice will be pointed out.The author hopes that this report can facilitate translators' understanding on translation practice and provide references for them while translating the similar text.
